Another day to ride

Another day to ride!

Well, this is my ‘94 BMW K75s. I have had it for a number of years and have sat in the saddle for many miles. It is quickly approaching 90,000 miles and if I get another good ride in somewhere, I may actually get there this year. The bike’s mechanic, Jim, says that if I keep it til 100k, then I’m not allowed to sell.

Besides, the many riders I talk to who’ve had K75’s in the past say they’re really sorry they got rid of that model. It has been loads of fun, but wouldn’t a ‘03 K1200RS provide the same or more? Maybe, I wouldn’t be to boast about keeping up with my sportbike buddies if I was riding a bike that was a capable as theirs. It was a satisfying feeling while riding out west with a VFR750 and Triumph Sprint and being able to keep pace through most of the twisties.

Riding this summer has been on and off. I’ve been able to do a lot of commuting, but not many weekend trips. However, next weekend is open and I plan on spending both days doing some riding. I really need the therapy. At least one day will likely take me to Galena, a great little ride from my part of the world. My riding buddies hopefully will be riding a Hayabusa and CBR, so I’ll have my work cut out trying to keep up….Or lead a good pace.

More to come…

Oops, I parked to take this picture. Glad I didn’t really get off the bike. Mounting these trusty steeds may be a little difficult.

Dusty – Ellexi’s new friend

Dusty – a Bichon Poo (poodle)

What’s this, Ellexi and Nikala have a dog? Isn’t Nikala like allergic to everything? Well, it sures seems like that. We really work hard to keep her comfortable.

Anyway, Dusty is a hypo-allergenic dog. The poodle mix means he has hair, not fur. The Bichon portion is really a small dog with virtually no dandur. So far, we have been lucky, Nikala hasn’t really had a bad reaction except on the first day. That made it an easy decision to be an outside dog. However, the reactions Nikala had were not severe. And Kenny had a similar incident and wasn’t around Dusty, so we think it may have been an airborne problem that day.

Besides Nikala’s allergies, Deena never really wanted another animal. You know, she’s already a mom to enough things (Nik, Lexi, Tic-Tac, me) and you can’t really leave a dog alone when you go on a vacation, even a short one. When I her she was considering a dog (through Ellexi), I asked if Deena had lost her mind. I’m still wondering where this Deena hid the real Deena.

Harry Potter VI – Got our copy

So we did not pre-order the sixth installment of the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling for no particular reason. The book went on sale at 12:01. Earlier, Deena decided she’d call Border’s to see if one could be held, they pretty much laughed at her. Since she’s flying tonight (literally), I thought I’d get some “Dad of the year” points by wading through the masses at Border’s. So, off I go a little before midnight…I should have brought a refreshment truck, I could have retired. The parking lot that normally accomodates not only Border’s, but Starbuck’s, Cingular, Radio Shack, Pier 1, Linens-N-Things, Old Navy and several other stores was practically FULL.

So much for the DOTY points I was thinking when a light bulb lit up…Jewel sells books and is open 24 hours. I wander down to Jewel thinking, maybe if they don’t have the book, I’ll try Wal-Mart. Well, the line at Jewel was about 15 people deep and they had cases stacked up behind the photo counter. SCORE! The line moved fast and I was back in my truck by 12:25am. Maybe I will be Dad of the Year afterall.
